About
Austal Philippines Pty Limited is the Philippine subsidiary of Austal Limited, an Australian-headquartered global defense and commercial shipbuilder publicly listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: ASB). The Philippines facility is a fully operational shipyard and service center located at the West Cebu Industrial Park in Balamban, Cebu, with a sustained investment of over USD $10 million between 2012 and 2017 and the completion of a new large-scale shipbuilding infrastructure in 2019. The shipyard features four medium-size assembly fabrication bays (50 x 24 metres each) and one large assembly bay (120 x 43 metres) capable of constructing vessels up to 120 metres in length, equipped with triple hoist overhead cranes. In 2022, Austal Philippines launched repair services, completing over 10 vessel repairs for commercial clients across the Indo-Pacific region. The facility's most notable output to date is Express 5, a 115-metre high-speed vehicle-passenger aluminium ferry — the largest aluminium ferry ever built in the Philippines — delivered in 2023 to Denmark's Molslinjen. The shipyard also delivered its first vessel in January 2013, a 27-metre Tri-Swath Wind Farm support vessel shipped to the UK. Austal's global operations span Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Philippines, with a workforce of over 4,400 employees worldwide.
