The Cathay Drug Company, Inc. (CDCI) is a Philippine pharmaceutical company founded in 1952 by the family of Yao Shiong Shio, a prominent postwar industrialist and president of the Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry from 1974 to 1976. From its founding until 2000, CDCI served as the exclusive Philippine distributor of pharmaceutical and animal health products for Merck & Co. (known internationally as Merck Sharp and Dohme). The company operates exclusively within the Philippines and specializes in the marketing and distribution of ethical pharmaceutical products and animal health products acquired through licensing and supply agreements with domestic and international firms. Key principal suppliers include Zambon S.p.A. (Italy), Aldo-Union S.p.A. (Italy), and Biopharm Chemicals Co., Ltd. (Thailand), with additional supply agreements with Dexa Medica, Lupin Ltd., Aurobindo Pharma Ltd., and Ajanta Pharma Ltd. CDCI is among the fastest-growing pharmaceutical companies in the country and was ranked No. 8 in the Philippine Pharmaceutical Industry Audit for the ethical segment by IMS as of 2015, and No. 2 among national pharmaceutical companies in the same segment. The company also operates a related entity, Cathay YSS, which distributes additional pharmaceutical lines. CDCI maintains an office and manufacturing or distribution presence in Laguna as well as its registered address in Makati City.
